The Serpent
05:24
|
|||
It's when you don't give a holler 'cause you're mad as hell,
That the devil stumbles over from his wishing well
Spittin', "Hey sonny, I've got some big surprise"
As you listen to his words, and the story unfolds
He whispers of wonders you couldn't behold
And struggle to imagine though you try
He whines "Now love, there's a catch, just wait
You gotta turn away from those pearly gates
You gotta leave that shit behind"
And it'll be hard, believe me I know
'Cause he tells you of pleasures you've never been told,
And struggle to manifest in your mind
Just say:
"I don't like the way you're running things 'round here no more,"
And walk out the door
So I went to him that very same day
I said those things, He laughed
"Kid, hey, you gotta go your own way.
But keep in mind, you ain't one of a kind,
At one in a million, you're three dozen a dime
You ain't hard to find. So go, just know that..."
Doggone daybreak, he don't say good morning to me
He just comes 'round and screams "Get your ass out of bed"
Goddamn twilight, she don't say sleep well now, darlin'
She just comes 'round and screams "Get your ass back in bed"
But you don't mind, because it's all from inside
I said you know I got but I don't fight it like you do
You know I want it, but who are we kidding, so do you
His eyes began to burn and bleed
With a stutter, he uttered "What'd you do to me?"
I said:
I gave into my disguise, oh no
Gave into what I hid behind
Because what I loved had left me blind
But it came as no surprise, no no
Pulled this shit so many times
Too fucked up, crossed the line
But you said you'd always love me
My eyes see straight through steel
What you mean is you're getting sick of me
But you just can't help the way you feel
How I know, because I feel like you
And now,
Doggone daybreak, he don't say good morning to me
He just comes 'round and screams "Get your ass out of bed"
Goddamn twilight, she don't say sleep well now, darlin'
She just comes 'round and screams "Get your ass back in bed"

Big Ol' Daddy
03:11
|
|||
Little pretty got a big ol' daddy, he stands so strong
But lately he been gettin' mad, and he don't stay awake long
And when he does, he spends all his money on whiskeys and wines
Always finds a way to say "how I love you, darling of mine."
Don't take her away from me
On her birthday he went shaved and sober, and told her about his dreams
He'll have a car and a job and her money by the time she's in her teens
She'll be so pretty and so smart and so happy and see things he's never seen
He swore beyond the good and golden that she'd always be his queen
Don't take her away from me
She said:
Why are you here now? Where did you come from?
Whose car did you drive? Don't even touch me, I don't trust you anyway
I'm surprised you're still alive
Taken aback, he stared with a cold, hard grin
Never knew that his little baby could even think of such things
But in his heart he could feel that she meant it, and she knew what she'd said
From then on, beyond that golden, he swore himself dead
Don't take her away from me
He said:
Why am I here now? Where did I come from?
Whose car did I drive? Don't even touch her, she don't love you anyway
Better run boy, run and hide

Tell Your Ma
03:51
|
|||
I said come down to the garden where I pray
Ignore the blood, come pick me up, say hey
I'll ask you how you doing kiddo, was your day
I beg you take me home with you, don't leave me this way
It was here that I found you, it was there that you were
It was there where you came from, so there lies your girl
And it's mine if you want me to have it
And you want me to have it, don't you?
So I went down to the forest where he lay
Broke through the brush, dug him up, said hey
But he wouldn't speak a word of what he said he'd say
He told me something else entirely that day
He said:
"Go tell your Ma, I like her cooking more than my own
Tell your Pa, to turn around and come straight back home
Tell your sister, she's the prettiest girl that I have ever known
Tell your brother, tell him 'I told you so'"

Bring Me the Baby Hammer
03:00
|
|||
They were laying at the end of time
But no one looked down
If they had, they would have realized
There's no one around
No messiah, no almighty god
No devil, no hell to fear
All there was, was a familiar voice
Booming in their ears, and it rang out:
"Bring me the baby hammer"
But it's not like they had heard it before
Wasn't like yours or mine
This voice it spoke in tongues both fast and slow
From another time, when it rang out:
"Bring me the baby hammer"
We who built the old school
Are the same who set in stone those old rules

White Light/Rough Tides
02:52
|
|||
White light, sit tight
Let the devils damn the dirty
White light, hold fight
Let the gods wince and worry
Rough tides, pick sides
Have the goblins tip the waiter
Rough tides, tell lies
Kill the loyal, saint the traitor
And when all is said and finally done
And the night and moon have tucked in the sun
The masses and the noble life will forge and bury the whitest light
And give birth to luna's fairest brides to mask mirrors of the roughest tides
Once again their king will stand, and with a slight wave of his hand
He'll damn the dirty and saint the traitor, wince and worry then tip the waiter
White light, sit tight
Let the devils damn the dirty
White light, hold fight
Let the gods wince and worry
Rough tides, pick sides
Have the goblins tip the waiter
Rough tides, tell lies
Kill the loyal, saint the traitor

Bet Your Bones
04:00
|
|||
You better bet your bones you're gonna take her home
Not even have to call her up on the telephone
You're gonna make it quick, you're gonna make it stick
Yeah you're gonna make her wish it'd never end
Then when the morning came, you straight forgot your name
Woke up and found the darkness, then you found your dame
Pulled on down them sheets, and thought aloud:
"What a treat, this ain't no one as far as I can tell"
Hurry up calm down
I see you're marchin' with marble
I'm here alone and it's awful
I've been so lonely lately, I'm thinking maybe
I might just take you in and keep you for my own
When she opened her eyes, much to her surprise
Her hands and her feet and even her mouth were tied
Naked on the ground, couldn't make no sound
Something damn cold sliding down her spine

Stilts
03:44
|
|||
So savage were the heartless
Their faith was perched on stilts
Awaiting floods, folding fortune corner to corner
So savage were the heartless
Their faith was built on fables
Something a bit less real, a messiah who wasn't there
So stubborn were the mindless
Blasphemers wielded science
But they stood their ground, watchful eyes on the open sea
So foolish were the loyal
Fact forging, allegorical
Waiting for the deluge that would never come
We're so quick to point our fingers at a trusting face
But we'll never know the comfort in feeling safe

Bread and Butter
05:18
|
|||
Your bread and butter got nothin' on me
I am the ocean, they are all inland seas
All of their rivers flow into yours truly
Fill my depths with everything I'll ever need
Tell me why every time you lied to me
Tell me why I did believe
They'll kill you, consume you, feed you to their kin
You can't writhe beside them, fester within
Oh and lord I, I live so lifted
When I was sheltered by her reigns
But my beauty, oh now encrypted
Yeah it's gon' nurse that stallion lame
I knew a time would come to pass
When fury for you would churn
But I did not expect to peer beneath your mask
And find a serpent in an urn
What I've learned
Is that you get what you've earned
Your bread and butter got somethin' on me
I am the ocean, they are all inland seas
All of their rivers flow into yours truly
Fill my depths with all this misery
Tell me why every time I told the truth
Tell me why you took me for some dirty sleuth

The Urn
05:12
|
|||
I remember taking back all of my things
And when she threw our picture at the wall
Her closet, it was full of all my clothes
She slept with but I never wore at all
The glass shards on the carpet cut her feet
When she cried and stood against the door
She said if I loved her I wouldn’t leave
I told her “I don’t love you anymore.”
It should have been a warning when we met,
That we were both afraid to be alone
So used to having someone there to hold,
We needed someone close to feel at home
Searching for a finger and a ring
Respectively, we gave it our best shot
But before you know true love in all its joy
First you must learn what true love is not
I know that something beautiful will sprout
From the seeds of dying love that we have sown
One cannot gain the strength from moving on
If they can’t take the first steps on their own
Though a phoenix turned to ash and born again,
We bring with us the lessons we have learned
New love will hold our original sin
A reminder of the serpent and the urn
